GMC Community Employment Committee inaugurated

The Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) has inaugurated a community employment committee at the firm’s functional hall in Nsuta Wassa.

The twelve member committee is made up of traditional authorities, GMC staffs, Assembly members and youth leaders.

Mr Glibert Kennedy Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, who inaugurated the committee, appealed to the members to help ensure the success of the committee.

He also stressed the need for teamwork to increase development in GMC’s host communities.

Mr Wisdom Adjei Mensah, Human Resource and Administrative Manager of GMC, said on September 18, 2018, a durbar was held to officially introduce the new management team to its stakeholders.

He said the Managing Director, Mr. Zhang at the ceremony pledged to implement programmes that would improve its host communities in the coming years.

Mr Adjei Mensah pointed out that stakeholders engagement could effectively be built on trust, depending on all inclusive transparency.

“That is why we have taken steps to put in place the community employment policy and committee to ensure that our stakeholders in the communities participated fully and exhibit transparency in all GMC and third party recruitments,” he stated.

Mr Adjei Mensah called on the committee to ensure that recruitment of residents from the host communities would be valued and guarded by the commitments and guidelines in the policy.

“We are committed to ensuring that 60/40 quota in favour of our communities will go a long way to create more opportunities and help improve upon the existing peaceful relationship between us” he added.

Mr Adjei Mensah pointed out that “within the policy there are opportunities for mediation when there are misunderstanding and conflicts. Let’s make use of that process as well, to ensure the policy is sustained”.

Nana Ampong Kwasi II, Divisional chief of Asikuma, who is the chairman of the committee promised to ensure that the committee worked hard to achieve the purpose for which it was established.
