Sixteen teams selected from the Greater Accra Region will battle for the annual Ramadan Cup billed for Saturday, June 8, at the Wembley Sports Complex at Kotobabi in Accra.
The fifth edition of the Ramadan Cup is organized to honor the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Nuhu Osman Sharubutu.
The competition themed “Bringing Zongo communities Together” was launched on Wednesday, May 29 and was witnessed some dignitaries from the football fraternity as well as some Islamic scholars.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Osei Kwaku Parma expressed his readiness and willingness to support this year’s competition.
He said “I have been supporting this and several competitions to develop talents for mother Ghana and the world in general and I would support this year’s edition.”
Mr. Boniface Saddique Minister at the Office of the Vice President commended the organiser Mr. Tamimu Issah for coming up with such a brilliant initiative which would unify the Zongo Communities.
“During my tenure as the Minister of Zongo and Inner city, I used football to reconciled the people of Asawasi in Kumasi” he said.
Mr. Issah assured the gathering that this year’s Ramadan Cup would be remarkable and exciting to watch.
The tournament is supported by Electroland Ghana Limited, distributor of Samsung, Midea and Nasco home appliances and Afro Arab Group of Companies.
Notable personalities who graced the occasion were James Kwesi Appiah, Head Coach of the Black Stars and his assistant Ibrahim Tanko. Coach Didi Dramani, former GFA executive Committee member, Osei Kwaku Parma, and Reps from the chief Imam’s office.
