Four District Chief Executives (DCEs) have been involved in a gory car crash at Datoyili in the Northern Region.

They include Mion DCE, Mohammed Hashim Abdullah, 48; Zabzugu DCE, Ahmed Abukari Iddrisu, 50; Gusheigu DCE, Musah Issah, 44; and Bimbilla Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Abdulai Yaqoub, 51, who sustained minor injuries.

The Mion, Gusheigu and Zabzugu DCEs were rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical attention and are said to be responding to treatment.

Daily Guide gathered that one Karim Zakaria, 32, was driving a Mercedes Benz saloon car with registration No. GC 6196-11, from Accra to Tamale with two persons on board.

On reaching a section of the road at Datoyili, he allegedly veered off his lane and collided head-on with a Nissan Patrol with registration No. GT 8465-19 driven by Ibrahim Abukari, 27, who was from Tamale to the Upper West Region, with the government officials on board.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the DCEs were on their way to the Upper West Region for the launch of the Rearing for Food programme introduced by the government to boost agriculture in the country.

According to him, the metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives were advised to avoid using long convoy to follow the President hence they decided that a group of four should use a vehicle and because of the directive, the four DCEs used the vehicle of the Zabzugu DCE.

He said on their way to the programme, a vehicle coming from Accra ran into their vehicle.

Mr. Saeed, however, stated that the condition of the DCEs had been stabilized by doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. He added that the Bimbilla MCE did not sustain serious injuries.
